THINGS TO SEE & DO
Here's a simple list of places to go, in no particular order:
-
Great Lakes Paddocks and Winery is definitely worth a visit - particularly when they have live music, a BBQ and a bar in the back paddock
-
The Grandis (the largest tree in NSW)
-
Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse (at Seal Rocks)
-
Camp Neranie (for picnics - don’t be troubled by the lace monitors)
-
Cellito beach (always deserted)
-
Sugar Creek picnic area and camp site
-
Fishing - there's dozens of places to drop a line in from the shore. Try anywhere near a boat ramp. The fishing in the area tends to be in shallow water and plastics or prawns work best.
-
Forster/Tuncurry (40min drive) - there’s a movie theatre there and everything you’d find in a medium sized town
-
Amaroo whale and dolphin watching (out of Forster); or Dive Forster also does a smaller cruise
-
Horse About Tours - horse riding on the beach in Tuncurry

Golfers:
Your options within reasonable driving distance are (with thanks to the Lower North Coast Golf Association's excellent web site):
-
Plus one little known 9-hole track called Sandbar Golf Course that is truly perfect for playing with kids and the inexperienced, where you just walk on and play and some guy finds you and asks for $10 at some stage
